If you are describing "detrimental reliance" it is a situation where you rely on a representation made by another party (for example, a promise that they will employ you if you move from city A to city B) and if the party refuses to fulfill its promise, you can claim detrimental reliance. It is a way of getting around the statute of frauds in a contract case.
