Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Missouri

Job Training Contract

I recently began a new job and at the end of my first day my boss tells me that I have to sign a contract for training and that if I leave the organization before 2 years I have to pay the entire amount back and if I leave after 1 year I have to pay half of it back. This was only mentioned to me after I had been offered the job, it was nowhere in the description nor was I told about this in the interviewing. I think that this was a bit decietful and I should have been told about this upfront.

And the thing is that if I wouldn't have signed the contract, I wouldn't have been able to keep my job.

Can employers be misleading about the requirements of a position and then all of a sudden tell you that you have to pay for this training you knew nothing about?

Re: Job Training Contract

You would have to talk with a MO attorney about your specific rights. Maybe you can stay in the job and avoid this training cost, but you can certainly leave and find a new job.
