National Guard Absence

I have a friend who has recently stopped going to the one weekend a month drills that they are supposed to go to for the National Guard. What is going to happen to them.

1. The person could have an option to "make up" the missed drills. This would have to be something discussed and negotiated with his unit.

2. After nine consecutive unexcused missed drills the unit has the option to initiate discharge proceedings against him.

See Mr. Cave's response. In addition, depending on the unit, the unit could initiate an Article 15 or similar action against him. Either way, the better plan is to live up to the commitment and do the right thing.
