Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

Early termination of lease

In my lease agreement there are no clauses that specify what I should do in case of early termination of lease.

I intend to move on january and I would like to know if there can be any consequences in case I choose to break the contract. Thank you

Re: Early termination of lease

There certainly are legal consequences to breaking a lease. A competent attorney would insist upon reviewing the specific lease itself before providing you with any specific legal advice about your particular situation. I suggest that you consult with an attorney before taking any action.

Althoug there are factual situations that make for a different outcome, generallly speaking you remain liable for the rent until the end of the lease. Yuo may also be liable for injuries to people who are injured on your rental property. This changes if the landlord relets the space to someone else before the end of the lease.

Unless you can afford to pay rent on two places, I suggest you follow Mr. Nack's instruction to have an attorney look at your lease before you decide to leave.

Good Luck
