Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

Quick claim deed was done on house from father to son last may copy was sent to wells fargo who has mortage. But was never filed in county we live in and father in rest home now. The son was primary care giver for ten years same house and has been making mortage payment for the last ten months. House has been sold and we are being told the check has to go in fathers name. he is on medicare and we are being told the state will step and take proceeds after house is paid off. We just found this out today and supposed to close on house thrus
