Re: my husband just passed away

I am sorry for your loss. Under the statutes you may be entitled to one-half of everything that he owned in his own name at the time of his death. You may have to go through Probate Court do do this legally. You should also be advised to check to see exactly how everything is titled. If you own a house and the house was titled in joint names then you own the house upon his death. The same with vehicles or bank accounts or other assets that have titles. Some assets could hae "t.o.d." or "p.o.d." provisions which would place ownership of that asset upon your husband's death with whoever was named. I would certainly advise consulting with an attorney at your earliest opportunity.
