I have inherited my mother's house. How can I avoid paying so much in inheritance tax?

Your question presumes that the "inheritance tax" is properly assessed. An attorney would need facts to make that determination. Could you supply the facts that lead you to believe that some tax is due? I don't know of any way to avoid paying a tax that is properly levied and due.
