Re: Bad Checks

There are two remedies for issuing bad checks. One is a civil remedy where the person whom the check was written to sues your friend in court for the amount of the check plus any additional costs in getting paid. Secondly, a criminal action can be filed against someone for issuing bad checks. Your looking at a maximum penalty of $500 and six months in jail for issuing checks. Practically, though, most county attorneys will not waste their time on a bad check writer unless it is a common thing that person does. But if a criminal action is filed, an arrest warrant can be issued and the person can be arrested.
