Re: emancipation

You will have to file a petition with your district court Judge. You will need to show the Court:

-- your reasons for wanting emancipation

-- how you are supporting yourself now

-- how you plan to support yourself when you become emancipated

-- how you plan to live, e.g., will you rent an apartment, how will you pay the rent, how will you afford furniture, how will you afford groceries, how will you transport yourself to and from school and work

-- you should have a budget that shows your current salary and your anticipated expenses (rent, furniture, laundry, groceries, utilities, car insurance and fuel or bus expenses, etc.)

-- how you are doing in school now

-- your plan to complete high school

You will also need to have periodic status hearings with the Court to show that you are still on track for graduating high school, and how you are doing at supporting yourself.

Do not expect to convince the Court easily. If you are not prepared to live without state benefits, the Court might not grant your petition.
