Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

Back in early 2011 my boyfriend was kicked out of his house by his mother, and she told him not to come home (she was and still is a bad mother, it's a complicated story.) She then left the state, before he was 18, which is abandonment. During that time, my boyfriend's father was still paying his mother child support, while at the same time giving my mom money to raise him because he (his father) lived too far from my boyfriend's school, and he didn't want to transfer schools at the end of his senior year. My boyfriend lived with me for 5 months before he turned 18, which means his mother gained $1,000 without putting it towards him. If this went to small claims court, would it stand a chance? (he wants to sue her for the $1,000)

It may actually be a family law question and the small claims court may not hear it. But it may also be successful. It is not expensive to file in small claims so it may be worth trying.
