Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

Fraudulant cell phone bill with no contract, How can I be liable?

While residing in Nevada an individual got ahold of my Social Security no. and opened a cell phone account. This was done without my knowledge and without a contract on the cell phone companies part. It wasn't until I was in Tennessee I found out about this. When I did find out I asked for a copy of the contract and they cannot provide one stating they open cell phone accounts all the time without contracts. I asked for all paperwork they could provide and upon receiving them there were many errors. My name was misspelled and an address that I never resided.

Recently during a suedo - background check on myself I found that this address is listed as a place of residence which is not true. I have not paid this $500 cell phone bill and I know it will not go away. But listing untrue information on a persons background still burns me. The thing that bothers me the most is the no contract part and the fact that they put untrue information in a persons background. Is there anyone who is willing to take on one of the big cell phone companies. Cell phone bill vs. attorney fees.

You need to obtain your free copies of your credit report from the three big credit reporting agencies. go to ftc.gov to get to free credit reports.

Then you write a dispute letter to all three and give all of the factual data to support your claim and ask that the false item be deleted. Keep copies of letters and send them with receipt card so you have proof they received your letters. This will set up the cell phone company for future liability if they fail to remove the item.
