Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Modification of child support and visitation

I have 2 children, their ages are 16 and 13. I have contacted the DA's office and they are modifying my child support from $500.00 per month to $1020.00 per month. My ex is trying to get me to agree on $865.00. My kids do not want to visit their dad again. He has told me that if I agree to the $865.00 he will not force visitation anymore. He sent me papers that he wants me to sign and I don't like the way they are worded. It says:

That non custodial visitation shall remain as originally ordered in the parenting plan with the children, because of their current age to make the decisions as to when they will make their visits to Las Vegas.

Does this mean that it's entirely up to the kids if they to to visit?

It also refers to my oldest turning 18 and child support will be reviewed and reassessed according to the laws in effect at that time.

What are the laws? Does the support get cut in half or can it be modified again before the three year time period? Also what is the age that the kids can make their own decision regarding visitation.

Thank you for your help.

Re: Modification of child support and visitation

The court will go along with that provision. There is no age at which the child can make that decision but teenagers are usually allowed to. You could not put in a provision saying child support is reduced in exchange for no visitation. The Court would not do that. Child support does get reviewed as each child reaches 18 or until he or she graduates. Two children are 25% and 1 child is 18%. kReview of support is appropriate at that time.
