Legal Question in Health Care Law in Nevada

Medical Records

I have requested in writing to fax over my records to the office my doctor transferred to, and they want me to pay $30.00 and pick them up. Is there anything I can do not to have to pay for these and have them justed faxed to my new doctors office?

Re: Medical Records

In connection with my personal injury practice I have been paying for medical records for years. The Nevada statutes allow a charge of 60 cents per page. If you are picking the copies up then there should be no postage charge. So the $30.00 charge is only legal if the records are 50 pages.

Possibly, in the future, the conversion of all records to electronic format will make it free to access records. Unfortunately, I don't think you can force them to fax the records.
