Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Nevada

Assignment of lease

I sold my barber shop. I was under the imprssion the buyer was assigned thier own lease. However the papers I signed assigned her my lease holding me responcible if she defaults. The landlords assistant did not make that clear to me when I signed the papers. I did this one week ago today. When I called the landlord explaining my concern he told me oh well you should have had a lawyer. I am scared and do not understand what I can do. What if this does happen can I resell a business that is not in my name.Help. Scared in Las Vegas.

Re: Assignment of lease

You need a lawyer NOW. Preferably someone LOCAL experienced in commercial real estate. If you can't find one, call me or e-mail me. I will review your documents and refer to NV counsel if necessary for a court appearance. I usually charge hourly but can also do flat fee.

Re: Assignment of lease

An assignment doesn't relieve you of your responsiblities undert the lease unless the landlord agrees to a novation.
