Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Hampshire

Credit Card Fraud

My brother recently discovered that his wife has been leading somewhat of a double life, and charged up close to $100K on about a dozen credit cards, many of which were opened in his name without his knowledge. To what extent is he liable for this debt? I imagine the balances on the cards that he already had open would be partially his responsibility, but what about for accounts opened fradulently? Is this a matter that is best resolved in divorce court? Might it be a criminal matter?

Re: Credit Card Fraud

This is too delicate and complicated to give a short e-mail answer. If he has a divorce lawyer then he should give notice to the credit card companies and cancel those cards. Liability will depend upon a number of factors including whether payments were made from a sole or joint account. In short, he needs a lawyer now and not information via the Web.
