Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Hampshire
My mother in law died in July. She had a will stating her assets to be split between her three sons. One son that lives in Ohio is the exutive of the will. My husband has asked him to send him a copy of the will. Yesterday he got a card with a check for $2,000.00 in it saying that is part of the life insurance policy. He stated that he is still paying bills out of the rest and will send the remaining balance when all is paid. No copy of the will was sent. We know she had atleast one checking account that her social security check got deposited into that his name was on so he could pay her bills. He won't send us a copy of the will and has made no mention of any bank accounts at all. We have no idea who the lawyer is that made the will. What can my husband do to get this information? His brother is greedy. My husband asked for some record albums and some military pictures of his father and was told that the brother took them already. We would appriciate any advice we could get in this matter. Thank you

If your mother in law died in Ohio, then you will need to contact an Ohio lawyer as that would be the location of the probate process. However, if she died in New Hampshire and New Hampshire was her residence, then the probate process would be commenced at the Probate Court in the County where she lived.
Unfortunately, when there is little communication among siblings, the need for attorneys is increased.
You may need to file a petition with the court to commence administration and force him to produce the necessary documents and information. This is best done with the assistance of an attorney.
