My condolences to you and your nieces. Probate can be a bit challenging for those not familiar with the process. You did not indicate the size of the estate, the assets or liabilities, so it is very difficult to give any specific advice. I generally recommend that you set up an appointment with an attorney experienced in these matters. During that appointment you and his daughters should be prepared to discuss any questions you have. You should have an idea as to what he owned, who and what he owed, and a listing of all items that have a title, such as cars, bank accounts, investments, real estate, etc. From that point a better determination can be made as to what needs to be done to take care of any legal issues.
