Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New Jersey

Re: Bankruptcy, Who Qualifies?
I was under the impression that anyone could file for bankruptcy, but I was told that you have to qualify. What are the qualifications, so I know whether or not to pursue this. And since I am "law-challenged" If you could also tell me what usually happens through the process, and the things they will or might ask for, I'd be ever so thankful. I was also wondering what is the difference between the chapters so I'll know which to pursue if any. thanks.
