If the mail were specifically addressed to an employee, even at a place of business, it is my belief that an employer has no right to open the mail and take the contents. However, there may be exceptions if has come to the employer's attention prior to the interception, that the mail may contain an explosive or other injurious substance, bribes to reveal trade secrets, or other similar material. This is a response to an Internet question and the reply is not intended to be legal adevice or as creating an attorney-client relationship.
