Legal Question in Construction Law in New Jersey

Switching contractors

I want to kick a contractor off two jobs because he made too many major mistakes. On one site he needs to demolish his block work for the second time, and needs to demolish his work on the other site as well. In total they have made 3 major mistakes over the two sites; a weak foundation, built a foundation that was over one foot too narrow and 8 inches too short and lastly they didn't strengthen the walls properly.

What advice do you have kicking this contractor off both jobs and getting someone to do it right. I sent a fax out today requiring that they demolish and remove their block work from one site in 2 weeks. It was my architect's recommendation to demolish this property, so it is documented. The site with two major mistakes has multiple documentation for the first mistake, and the architect witnessed the second and can document it was well.

I need to move forward on these two sites, but I feel keeping this company on will only delay the project and result in more poor work.

Re: Switching contractors

Doing what you propose safely (so that you don't have liability) is a bit tricky and it would require a review of the contract documentation that you have. If you would like to discuss the matter, please call. If you remind me of this response, the first consultation will be free.
