Can police in NJ confiscate car if marijuana is found inside it?

They may be able to. It depends on issues like whether it appears that the marijuana was going to be sold or used for personal use, whether the driver or owner knew it was there, etc. I recently got a confiscated car back for a client in circumstances that sound like yours. These are issues that should be evaluated by an attorney.
