Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Parental Neglect

Over the past years my wife has left our children home alone at various times, while she goes to work. Her job, is out of desire, not need. Only when I complain does she make a vein attempt to find someone to watch them. Our daughter was (10) when it started with her, she is now 14 and comes home from school to an empty house. Our son is now 10. Sick with an infection in his leg, just back from the doctors office this morning, throwing up with a headache and fever, she left him home by himself, so she could go to work. My options, her liability, and consequences

of my actions.

Re: Parental Neglect

hi -

from your message, i can't tell if you are still married and living at home with your wife, or not.

if yes, then you are both equally responsible for your children's welfare. i guess that one of your options is: get a divorce if you aren't happy. another: you arrange the daycare needs of your children. i suppose that the consequences of your actions, i.e. divorce, are pretty self-explanatory: perhaps, alimony, child support, equitable distribution of marital assets, etc. feel free to call me at 609 263-0089 if you have any further questions. good luck !!

Re: Parental Neglect

At the risk of being viewed as "preachy", I think the neglect goes both ways. Why have you let this go on so long, if it is so bad? You are the parent also. You should have been in Court long ago to rectify this situation if you could not amicably resolve it. Nevertheless, we are where we are. You should immediately contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail and get something done quickly. I will be happy to assist you. However, you need to call me at 856-546-8010. If you mention LawGuru, there will be no charge for your first consultation. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
