Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Can my spouse change the locks on jointly owned property?

Does my spouse have a legal right to change the locks on jointly-owned property/primary residence if I decide to take up temporary housing elsewhere while trying to determine if I want to continue in my marriage?

Re: Can my spouse change the locks on jointly owned property?

Please be advised that I have not been retained to represent you and i am basing this response on the limited amount of information supplied. However, if the property is jointly owned, you have a right to it and he cannot lock you out. You have just as much right to it as your spouse. If you wish to discuss this or any other issues in greater detail, please feel free to contact me at 908-537-7975.

Good Luck!
