Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Visitation/Religion

I want to know the NJ Law for Visitation: My ex changed the children church w/o consulting me, and now is insisting that I bring the children to her or bring them to the new church during my visitation. I want to attent my church (children were Bapitized in) can she force me to bring the children to her new church and deny me the right to have a religous founddation with my children. And if so how does this effect the dates when we travel on weekends and are not in the area. Thank You

Re: Visitation/Religion

Your question cannot be answered without a long and detailed review of your situation. The answer would change based on many factors including present status (now married and separated or already divorced), any orders presently in effect, religion of the kids, changes made by the parents to the status as of the time of divorce, etc., etc. Most Courts are very hesitant to enter into issues concerning religion. When they do, they try to preserve the situation that existed at the time of the divorce. However, keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There are many factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. Since it appears that you have not retained an attorney, before you take any further action, you should contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be able to rely on the advice. I will be happy to assist you. However, you need to call me at 856-546-8010. If you mention LawGuru, there will be no charge for your first consultation. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
