Legal Question in Insurance Law in New Jersey

Am I legally bound

My girlfriends 20 year old son was involved in a auto accident. The driver of the other car ran a stop sign. The details are as follow's. He was driving someone else's car doing them a favor of bring to an picking up the daughter from work . No ticket was given to him by police. Now the owner of the car he was driving wants a copy of insurance info from his mother cause he's covered under the mother's auto insurance. The reason because the car owner's Insurance co is droping her policy. We do not see that is needed cause the son gave her the insurance card an it was submited to her insurance co.Reason is now she wants to get a lawyer if we do not comply with her request. Are we bound by any law to just hand over any forms or more infor.
