Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

A judgment for possession was granted on mon., dec. 19th, does this designate in any way by itself when I can be removed or locked out? Also what does the current moratorium in NJ mean to me? I know you folks like to recieve some amount of money for the answers to my questions but I am being evicted because I have no income and no reserves at this time. Please consider this. Thank you. Joe

The earliest you can be locked out is 10 business days from the date your landlord obtained judgment for possession. So in your case, the earliest would be December 29. Your landlord has to apply for a Warrant of Removal, which can't issue earlier than 3 business days after the judgment for possession. Then the Warrant of Removal will be served on you and it will contain the lockout date. The lockout date is 3 business days after you are served. So as you see, that is a minimum of 10 calendar days from the judgment of possession. It may end up being more if the landlord does not apply for the warrant of removal right away. You can also ask the court to give you 7 extra days for an "orderly removal." Go to the court's Special Civil Part clerk's office and ask for the form. Also ask them for some literature about getting housing assistance.
