Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

My landlord refused my rent in May and never gave me the information on where my security deposit was deposited. I lived out my security deposit in May and tried to pay her rent in June. She refuse the rent then began eviction proceedings. I did not fight the eviction becasue she began to terrorize me and my family so we knew we had to leave. My rent was 1,200. a month. She had the constable put the eviction notice on my aprtment on the 20th of July and the 21st she decide to change the locks. I had to call the police to get my things out so I did. She has also blocked in my car and left for a weekend and is illegally renting out the attic in this house. She is know suing me for 5,000.00 for rent due and late fees. I obviuosly do not owe her that kind of money.
