Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

I have a male and female tenant. The female signed the lease and left after six months. She then wrote me and asked to be removed from the lease and that the male tenant would be responsible for loss of rent or damages and she would not be. I verbally told her it was ok. Now the male tenant has left, who gets the security deposit?
