Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

I am in the process of buying a home. During a title search a judgement for an unpaid lawyer bill shoulded up from 16 years ago. They have never executed this judgement and it did not show up on a banckruptcy I filed 5 years ago or in my mortgage review or credit checks. Can this still be collected. State of NJ

Whether the debt is collectable or not, you must deal with it as part of the purchase process. Judgment liens docketed in NJ are good against any real property owned in the State for 20 years. The reason why it affects the buyer's side is because the mortgage lender wants to have a first lien. Your bankruptcy lawyer may be able to advise you as to what happened in the bankruptcy.
