Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

transfer property

my boyfriend was to transfer 1/2 of his home to me which is mortgage free. How would we do this? Do we need a lawyer for this or can we do it ourselves? And are there any repercussions for me? thanks

Lots of repercussions, mostly for him. Some for you too. Gift tax? duty to pay the taxes, utilities, upkeep?

You transfer real estate by signing a properly drawn Deed. A lawyer can assist greatly.
