Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Last week, my boyfriend and 4 friends were driving down to six flags great adventure when we got pulled over in Robbinsville, NJ. When the cop got to the car he immediately smelled the marijuana (we had just smoked) and told us it was our chance now to come clean, but nobody responded. When he came back he decided to search the vehicle, taking out the passenger first, then the driver (my bf) then the backseat passengers, (me, n two others) He threatened us with dogs and a female cop and i caved and handed over 4 bags of marijuana. He arrested me, placed me in the car, and went back to my friends stating i was not going to jail, i was just getting a ticket. So after everything with them taking me to the precinct and doing what they do....i ended up with a summons for possession, and a ticket for "CDS in a motor vehicle" but i wasn't the driver! it wasnt even my car AND i was in the backseat. so what the heck is gonna happen in court??

You are looking at losing your DL for 2 years if convicted. As a result, the court will likely force you (or strongly urge you) to get an attorney one way or the other. I have an office in Princeton, so I have been in Robbinsville Municipal Court. Call me anytime at 732/773/2768 to discus the case.

In my opinion they can't make the CDS in a Motor Vehicle ticket stick. The drug charge is potentially severe, but there may be ways to minimize the penalties you are facing. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

The charges are serious, but can be worked out. I would strongly recommend retaining a lawyer (regardless if it is someone kind enough to answer your question on this site) or elsewhere. I have been to that Court in the past. I still have some questions about your situation. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss your case, I never charge for a consultation (201)-894-9498. Best of luck whatever you decide, Jon Mincis
