Left a buddy's pension but can't get without death certificate

My dad was left a sizable amount of a friend's pension. However, the Local managing the monies will not release the funds without a copy of the death certificate which I'm unable to obtain without maiden name of deceased. I've sent the Local a copy of the police report regarding the death and they've indicated for months it is in the lawyers hands. My dad isn't getting any younger and could use these $$$. Any suggestions?

Someone has been representing the estate and an Executor or Administrator should have been appointed and may be represented by an attorney. A simple call to the Surroagte's office in the County where the decedent resided at date of death should result in your getting the necessary information. To have been appointed, a death certificate was required. A copy can then be provided your dad by the Executor/Adminstrator or the attorney for the estate.

Try calling the funeral parlor.

Assuming that you have given all of the needed information (and no insult, I assure you, it is almost impossible for a person to give ALL of the critical information in a posting like this), then you may want to consider the following ideas.

It sounds like you have tried to get this on your own, and it sounds like you need an attorney's assistance to get it done. It should not be too terribly difficult.

If you would like, give me a call to set up an appointment; I am in northern New Jersey. My contact information can be obtained from the links below, just click on the Attorney Profile link. Let my secretary know you found me through LawGuru.
