each person can gift $11,000 to a donee per year before triggering estate and gift tax issues.

Email or call my office to schedule a time to discuss estate planning and gifting techniques.

There is no maximum amount that can be gifted to you.

There is a maximum of $11,000 per year, per beneficiary that can be gifted without any gift tax implications to the donor of the gift. If the gift exceeds $11,000 per beneficiary, then the donor will begin to use up his $1,000,000 lifetime exemption from gift/estate tax, but would not owe a tax until that exemption was used up.

As you have read in the other attorneys' responses after $11,000 there are gift tax issues. However, to answer your question directly, there is no legal limit to how much one can gift you. Someone could give you a gift of a billion dollars if they want. However, as my colleagues have pointed out, after $11,000 in a single year the givor (not the givee) will incur a gift tax penalty against his or her lifetime deduction.
