If you are not represented by an attorney, you are advised to file with the court a Request for Production of Documents, listing the papers and documents you want from the other party, including a detailed Financial Affidavit, it the other party has not filed it, indicating income, property, debts, and expenses. This is one type of "discovery" and is one of your rights, but has to be done timely and before the hearing so you can obtain the needed documents before court hearing. There are family law forms available for these matters.
