How do I find out if a lawyer is actualy a real lawyer ?

I have a relitive that was given the wrong medication by a pharmacy , a boyfriend of another family member asked to take the case for a percentage, this person will not talk directly to his ''client'' and goes through the family member .

My question is : How do I varify that he is actualy a lawyer ?
