Legal Question in Banking Law in New York

i won $5400 on a ny lotto ticket. i let my father cash it for me . he deposited it in his 'joint' bank account with my grandmother.he owed a hospital $3400. he had $8000 in the joint account. the bank put a freeze on the account.can they do that being its a joint account? and if so is there any way i can save my money?

any help would be much appreciated
