Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

bankruptcy on my credit file when i did not file

my wife has great credit, when she tryed to change credit cards to a lower apr she was denied because they said she had a bankruptcy.She never filed bankruptcy,she gave it some thought and she remembers her ex boyfriend back in 1995 got a credit card and put her on as an authorized user.well he filed bankruptcy and now its on her credit.How can this be.She has had no knowledge of this account since she left him, and she was never notified that anything was going on.Can they do this?? the system is really mest up. Thank You

This is not a bankruptcy question. It is a credit-reporting question. Obtain a copy of the credit report. Review the item. If the information being reported is factually incorrect file a protest with the credit-reporting agency.
