Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

This is an unusual question regarding an attorney I hired to file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy 6 yrs ago. I paid him $1100., was given a receipt, never signed any documentation or agreement. I have bank documentations from this transaction & other documentaton. I started college & I am almost finished making me procrastinate in filing for bankruptcy due to applying for student loans. I never got back to the attorney hired, no files were ever sent to the court, he never called me back. I forgot, he forgot about everything. I recently found all of this documentation, called hime 2 wks ago, left many messages w/ his apologetic secretary. Without him calling me either way regarding this matter has only made me more upset. I am tired of waiting for a refund. I am a F/T student, not working, & also a single mother of three children. What should I do?
