Legal Question in Business Law in New York

College wants payment from student for college's mistake

A community college in New York State accidentally sent me money and now they want it back. The college's own employee financial aid program covered my entire tuition. TAP and another scholarship each awarded me scholarships totaling $500, and that $500 was sent to me as a check from the college. Now, a semester later, the college realizes that the financial aid program should have awarded $500 less and allowed the scholarships to pay for my tuition. It was a mistake to send me the money. Now the college is sending me a bill to get the $500 back. It was the college's mistake -- do I have to pay $500 for their error?
