Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

name change suffix

looking for legal precedent where an academic degree conferred (ex. md or phd) was made part of a legal name.

the judge is rejecting a degree designation in a name change petition, probably based on experience and not legal research.

he is granting time to persuade him otherwise. advice?

Re: name change suffix

I don't think you will be able to persuade the judge and I'm not aware of any precedent for the name change you seek. A degree can confer a title but it does not become part of the legal name. What happens if down the line the doctor loses his license so he is no longer entitled to use the degree in his name? I think the judge is wise to deny the name change.
