Roomate problem ?

i allowed someone to move in who needed help and verbally ''agreed'' on a rent amount per month to stay. the day he moved in..i explained that i have never had anyone living here and that i do not know if i am selling or renting the house or if this will work out living together.

the first week that he moved in he paid 100 cash ..the weekly amount was to be 175 so he did not pay in full. no receipt was given. 3 weeks that he is here ..no money as he claims business is slow....however i did not like the fact of having a roomate ...so i asked for the room back. he wanted to give me a check for a weeks rent which i did not accept, i asked for the room back 3 weeks into his living here and he claims hopefully within 1-2 weeks he finds a place. 1 week later he claims he has visited 20 places and no place yet but he is looking and does not exactly know when he can move out. what recourse do i have ? what can be done since there is no signed agreement ?

You have created a tenancy when you allowed the person to move in and accepted rent. Your recourse is to start an eviction proceeding in the housing court of your county.
