Re: Propositions

New York does not have a law allowing for public petition (thank goodness) Hence if you want to change the law, you have to do it the old fashion way, Get a legislator to introduce a change, run for office then if you win you introduce the proposition, or bring a court challenge.

In fact though it seems like a good idea, public supported propositions are not vetted and often cause unconsidered problems that can only be changed by further proposition or by courts (which is why so many props are overturned by courts). The procedure is costly and often benefits the most monied interests. These Proposition proposals rarely if ever actually improve the function of government.
