Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Hello, I was arrested for shoplifting from walmart once but they had me on 2 (two) days of stealing so they did the days as seperate charges. They arrested me on the second day. 3 months later (now) there walmarts attorney sent me two (2) letters in the mail both to come to a sum of $736.80 together. 1st day total of $68.41 fined me ($342.05). 2nd day total of $78.95 fined me ($394.75). Is there any way that i can get out of atleast one of these? calling and talking to head people of walmart?

I would be more concerned about the criminal consequences of shoplifting (Petit Larceny 155.25) than the civil demands for payment. That being said, a store has the right to seek payment and penalty via a civil demand (attorney letter) pursuant to New York General Obligation Law Section 11-105.

Learn more at http://www.petit-larceny.com/century-21-shoplifting-policies/ as the same laws apply to all department stores.
