Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Bank account exemption

Dec.10,my bank account was frozen with $805.00 in it. I receive SSI in the amount of $710.00 a month. Back in Oct. I deposited $1,667.00 in to my account which I received from a BodilyInjury suit. Is my account considered ''Exempt'' or ''Co-Mingled Funds''? Thank You.

Re: Bank account exemption

Good question. Normally, adding non SSI funds into an account results in a co-mingled account. The part I am not sure about is whether the funds received from the bodily injury suit are exempt as well...If so, I think the account would be exempt. You can start a proceeding in court where that determination will be made.
