Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Bank account frozen

My savings account was frozen with $250 in it by a lawyer for a debt I owe. I was told that it would be released when I agreed to pay $200 of that money to the lawyer. In the meantime (one day), a direct deposit of $490 went in and now they say they are taking that also. Is this legal.

Re: Bank account frozen

AS long as the attorney had a valid judgment

prior to giving the bank the property execution

or having the marshall serve such document,

yes and any future sums can be frozen up

to twice the amount owed on the Judgment
