Cancelled Check Cashed by Check Cashing Business

I placed a stop payment on a check to a former employee and replaced it because she said claimed she did not receive it. After resolving the matter with her, she took the cancelled check to a check cashing business. The check cashing place claims to have contacted me and noted that I verified the check, but this is not possible since I canceleed the check the day before. They have now filed a claim in civil court against my company and the employee. This is in New York. What should I do?

You should answer the complaint and then "implead" the employee. In other words, you should commence a third party action against the employee for indemnification for money you may pay to the cash checking business.
