If a department store claims you made purchases on their card (in store)and you claim it is not true, is it the responsibility of the dept. store to show copy of signed sales receipt?

Re: credit card bill

In court, they would have to show some form of authorization from you for the charges.

Re: credit card bill

There are certain presumptions under the law that may come into play if you are sued for the purchases. You do not provide any details about the charges, how much, over how long a period, etc. If you got statements with charges on them and you did not dispute them there is a presumption that you authorized them and therefore are responsible. If it was a one time thing and you did object timely, your liability may be $50 only. It depends on many things.

Re: credit card bill

If the card is yours, the charges may be presumed to be yours. If not, why did you not dispute them when the bill came?
