Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

hiring a debt relief lawyer who has since ben disbarred

I hired a debt reduction lawyer in Jan 1999. My agreement with this firm was for an automatic withdrawl from my checking account for 304.00 a month for the term of 21 months. The firms agreement was to take care of 6 credit card debts that I owed. I fulfilled my agreement with them, actually they took out 32 months worth of payments.I had very little contact with them through the years, I hadnt recieved any collection phone calls so I felt they were probably doing their job. Well, I recently got a credit report to see what was happening and I found that IM in more serious trouble than I was before I hired them. It turns out that this lawyer was pocketing the monies from his desperate clients instead of helping them,he moved from his location after being disbarred and joined another practice in another state, continueing to pocket his clients monies,Me included. Now I recently recieved a judgement on one of those cards that is going to garnish my wages.I contacted this firm and was told How unfortunate if Id allow them to again take from my checking account they would try to take care of this judgement.I told them that I had fulfilled my agreement and they had not.I was told too bad. What are my rights in this matter?

1. His partners in NY are monetarily responsible for his fraud. You can sue them.

2. Contact the NY Bar & make a claim for his theft. They have a fund for this.

3/ Sue him where you can find him.

4. If he is a partner in the new firm sue them too. Notify the current states Bar Association .Good luck.
