Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

jtwros and debt collections

My mother and I purchased a house together and on the title it states ''Joint tenants with rights of survivorship''. About 15 months after purchase, she died. Can a credit card collection agency go after the house in order to attempt to collect from her[estate]. I was not listed on any of the credit cards.

Re: jtwros and debt collections

No they can not as the house is not part of her Estate.

The house passed to you by opertion of law at the time of her death. If they contact you tell them she passed away and left no estate and to stop contacting you.
