Restarting the statue of limitations on debt collection in NY State

In New York State, can a verbal acknowledgement to a collection agency of a credit card debt or a verbal promise to pay said debt restart the statute of limitations on that debt?

Thank you in advance for your help!

An acknowledegment that a debt is owed is not, by itself, sufficient to start a new limitations period. What can start the period over is a promise to pay the debt. However, the promise must be in writing. Also, a payment towards the debt will start a new limitations period.
